Steps to Foster/Adopt

ADOPTION/FOSTER REQUIREMENTS
You must be twenty-one (21) years of age or older.
If married, you must have celebrated your first year of marriage.
You must be in good health.
You must me able to manage your income to meet the financial needs
of your family.
You must have the space (bedroom and personal space) to
accommodate the number of children you wish to foster/adopt.
You must be capable of understanding, loving and accepting a
child/children you did not birth or father.
You must be willing to attend pre-service training and support group
meetings.
ADOPTION/FOSTER PROCESS:
1. Intake Process-
This process provides a OCOC representative the opportunity to  gather
appropriate information needed to initiate the application process.  This
information is usually gathered through telephone, office contact or website inquiry

2. Application Process-
Prospective families are required to fill out the Resource Family Application,
background check documentation and the notice to Foster/Adoptive Parent form.  
All information provided is forwarded to the Department of Human Services for
approval prior to the initiating of the Resource Family Home Assessment.

3. Home Assessment Process-
Upon completion of the application and background approval, the home
assessment process is initiated.  Families are enrolled in the required pre-service
training which is to run concurrently with the home assessment.  All information
gathered by the OCOC representative is confidential and is only shared with the
Department of Human Services Adoption/Foster Care representative.  The
completed home assessment is forwarded to the Department of  Human Services
for final approval and certification of the prospective family.
