The "Family Ties": support group originated in 1995 in Oklahoma City,
OK through a collaborated effort of OCOC of Oklahoma and the OKDHS.
The Resource Family Support Group is a group that provides support,
education and information for Foster Parents, Relative Placement,
Adoptive and Prospective Adoptive Parents. Come and share in common
concerns and build a network of support while having fun.
The Resource Family's Support Group is an informal support group where
ideas can be shared and exchanged by and with people who have similar
interests and experience.
The support Group provides a wealth of information to inform members
about where to turn for help with a particular problem. It provides
recommended reading material, information on dealing with agencies,
courts, institutions, etc., to suggesting attorneys or therapists that
individuals in the group have found to be most knowledgeable and helpful
with specific types of problems.
There will be an arm around a shoulder, a child seeing other children and
not feeling different, a parent grateful for a listening ear, whether the
focus of the meeting is social, a guest speaker or an outing, support can
and does take place. Take some time to know people, to share your
concerns and to offer your experiences. The results will be surprising!
The group hosts guest speakers. The group consists of single and two
parent families who have adopted and/or fostered, families who are
waiting to foster or adopt, and families who want to get more information
before making any decisions.
The meetings are held the last Monday of each month.
